Following Tennessee’s eighth workout of the spring camp slate on Wednesday morning in Knoxville, the wide receiver room had the spotlight with the media.

Tennessee wide receivers coach Kelsey Pope is fresh off an off-season contract extension and is back in Knoxville for his third season leading his position group. Pope met with the media on Wednesday to break down the receiver’s progress through the first eight practices, the emphasis on physicality, the addition of Chris Brazzell from the transfer portal, and the advancements that Dont’e Thornton has made entering his second year with the program.

“I think they’re different in their skillsets, similar in build,” Pope said about Thornton and Brazzell. “For us, that entire room, we’ve done a good job — and it’s a testament to coach (Josh) Heupel — getting longer on the outside. You talk about those two, Dont’e (Thornton Jr) and (Chris) Brazzell II, you talk about Bru (McCoy) who’s coming back, you talk about Chas (Nimrod) and Kaleb (Webb), and the addition of Mike (Matthews) and Braylon (Staley)—you have some real length at wideout.”

After Pope, a trio of Tennessee receivers also met with the media to discuss much of the same. Squirrel White spoke about his impression on the newcomers while Brazzell broke down some of his own game and what Vol fans can expect in the future. Thornton spoke about being more comfortable in his second year in the system and gave an update on his recovery after sustaining an injury late last season.
