There’s a new top-ranked college baseball team in the country and they reside in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Tony Vitello’s seventh Tennessee team ascended to the top-spot in this week’s D1Baseball rankings after taking two out of three games at Florida over the weekend. There’s a multitude of college baseball rankings and polls but D1Baseball is the most respected and are the rankings that ESPN broadcasts use.
The Vols entered the week ranked No. 3 in every single prominent ranking before picking up their seventh straight series win by knocking off rival Florida at Condron Family Ballpark in Gainesville. It was another impressive series win but Tennessee also received some help to ascend to the top-spot.
Texas A&M entered the week ranked No. 1 according to D1Baseball but LSU swept a three-game series with the Aggies in Baton Rouge. Arkansas was the No. 2 team in the country entering the week but the Razorbacks dropped two out of three games at Kentucky.

With both Texas A&M and Arkansas dropping series, Tennessee jumped up two-spots to become the No. 1 team in the country for the first time this season.
The Vols exit the week with a 39-9 (17-7 SEC) record and have been playing great baseball over the last month posting a 13-3 (10-2 SEC) record.
It’s just the second time ever that Tennessee has occupied the top-spot in the college baseball rankings. The Vols had never been the No. 1 team in the country before the 2022 season when Tennessee earned the No. 1 ranking early in SEC play and stayed at the spot until its season ended with a Super Regional loss against Notre Dame.
Now, just two years later, Tennessee is back as the No. 1 team in the country with just two weeks remaining in the regular season.
