Are we talking about college football in May? You better believe it. SEC football never stops. The Vols are coming off a 9-4 season in which they finished No. 17 in the final AP poll after a 35-0 beatdown of Iowa in the Peach Bowl.

The Vols open the season Labor Day weekend against Chattanooga. It’s a tune-up for the battle with North Carolina State, Saturday, Sept. 7 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The exact kickoff time and broadcast network hasn’t been announced.

DraftKings has come out with odds on the Week 1 clash, setting the Vols as 5.5-point favorites. DraftKings also has future bets available, like the Vols’ 8.5 over/under regular season wins in 2024 and +3500 to win the national championship. As the season gets closer, all of the top online sportsbooks will release odds for all of the games and various futures markets.

Georgia is still the favorite to win the national title, with Ohio State just behind.

Vols coach Josh Heupel will likely hand the reins of his high-powered offense over to sophomore quarterback Nico Iamaleava. He played in five games as a freshman and threw a pair of TD passes. Former Vols quarterback Joe Milton was drafted by the Patriots, and 1,000-yard rusher Jaylen Wright was picked by the Dolphins.

Like the Vols, NC State finished 9-4 last season and was 21st in the final AP poll. The Wolfpack were downed by Kansas State in the Pop Tarts Bowl. Also like the Vols, they have a tune-up on Labor Day weekend taking on Western Carolina.

The Wolfpack were active in the transfer portal, bringing in former Coastal Carolina star Grayson McCall at quarterback. McCall threw for over 10,000 yards and 88 touchdowns in his career at Coastal Carolina.

  • Oct. 12: Florida at Tennessee (-11)
  • Oct. 19: Alabama at Tennessee (+2)
  • Nov. 16: Tennessee (+17.5) at Georgia

Last year’s Florida-Tennessee game ended with an ugly scuffle between the two teams. The Vols open as an 11-point favorites over the Gators, who beat the Vols 29-16 last season but were not a factor in the SEC race. Florida brings back quarterback Graham Mertz. Tennessee gets its first look at new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer on Oct. 19. The Vols had the Tide on the ropes last year, but collapsed in the second half and were outscored 27-0 in the final 30 minutes. Tide QB Jalen Milroe returns after finishing sixth in the Heisman Trophy balloting last year, but the Saban mystique is gone, right? DraftKings has the Tide as 2-point favorites.

On Nov. 16, the Vols will line up against SEC superpower Georgia. The Bulldogs routed the Vols 38-10 last year and bring back this year’s Heisman favorite in quarterback Carson Beck. He threw for almost 4,000 yards last year with 24 touchdowns. DraftKings has the Vols as 17.5-point underdogs.
