Post time for the 149th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore is scheduled for 6:50 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 18. NBC has the national telecast.

The Bob Baffert-trained Muth opened as the 8-5 morning line favorite Monday after drawing the No. 4 post for the 1 3/16-mile race. But Muth developed a fever, and the horse’s temperature spiked at 103 degrees Tuesday night, hours after arriving at Pimlico, leaving Baffert’s camp to make an agonizing decision. The Maryland Jockey Club officially announced the scratch Wednesday morning.

That leaves an eight-horse field for the Preakness with Kentucky Derby-winner Mystik Dan the new morning line favorite at 5-2 from the No. 5 post. Mystik Dan will become a larger favorite once the odds are adjusted.

On May 4, the Kenny McPeek-trained Mystik Dan prevailed at Churchill Downs by a nose to win the closest Kentucky Derby since 1947.

Mystik Dan is seeking to become the first Triple Crown winner since Baffert’s Justify in 2018.

Muth did not run in the Kentucky Derby due to Baffert’s ban at Churchill Downs but did beat Mystik Dan (third place) and the field in the March 30 Arkansas Derby.

Baffert’s other Preakness entry, Imagination, was tied for second on the oddsboard early Thursday with Catching Freedom at 6-1. Baffert is attempting to extend his current Preakness record with a ninth victory at Pimlico. He won there in 2023 with National Treasure.

Tuscan Gold, at 8-1, was the only other horse with better than 10-1 Preakness odds as of Thursday.
