Four-star safety Lagonza Hayward will announce his college commitment on Aug. 7, On3’s Chad Simmons reported earlier this week.

Hayward is choosing amongst a top seven that includes Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, South Carolina, Southern California and Tennessee.

Hayward ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 95 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. A Toombs County High School standout, Hayward also ranks as the No. 10 safety and the No. 12 player in the state of Georgia.

The Vols have long been a top player in Hayward’s recruitment. Back in late April, the Lyons native said that Tennessee was the leader in his recruitment.

Hayward has taken three visits to Tennessee dating back to his unofficial visit to Knoxville for the Georgia game in November. The four-star recruit has twice visited Tennessee this spring and has plans to officially visit the Vols again in the middle of June— six weeks ahead of his college commitment.

One of the top safeties in the country, Hayward took an official visit to Georgia last weekend and has an official visit scheduled to Florida next weekend. He’s also taken a pair of visits to both Alabama and Florida State.

Tennessee football’s 2025 recruiting class currently contains 10 commitments including from a trio of defensive back. Alabama native Sidney Walton is currently the Vols only true safety commit in their 2025 recruiting class.

The Vols’ 10-commit recruiting class currently ranks No. 18 nationally and No. 9 in the SEC according to the 247sports team rankings.
