Oklahoma Poised To Get Trio Of Key Players Back Against Tennessee

Oklahoma football is likely getting three key players back on the field for Saturday night’s SEC opener against Tennessee according to its Wednesday night availability report.

The Sooners listed receiver Nic Anderson, center Troy Everett and safety Kendel Dolby all as probable on the week’s first availability report Wednesday night.

Neither Anderson nor Everett have played yet this season while Dolby missed last week’s game against Tulane after playing the first two weeks of the season. All three players are projected starters for Oklahoma with Anderson and Everett hoping to jolt a struggling offense.

Anderson is the most notable Sooner poised to return from injury. Oklahoma’s top returning receiver, Anderson caught 38 passes for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns a season ago. While the 6-foot-4 receiver wasn’t a consistent possession threat a season ago, he was a major threat in the vertical passing game.

Oklahoma’s passing game has faltered early this season, especially to its receivers, in part due to a seemingly lackluster group of healthy receivers and bad offensive line play.

That’s where Everett returning from injury could give Oklahoma a boost. The senior started a handful of games both at left guard and center last season after transferring in from Appalachian State. He will start at center on Saturday night is he is available.

Getting a projected starter back would be a noteworthy victory for Oklahoma but Everett also isn’t an All-SEC level player who you’d expect to radically change the offensive line play.

Dolby started last season for Oklahoma as well as the first two games of this season. Last year, Dolby totaled 49 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions. In the first two games of this season, Dolby totaled seven tackles, one sack and one pass deflection.

While it isn’t official that the trio are playing, Oklahoma listing them as probable on Wednesday is definitely a good sign for their availability. Kickoff between Tennessee and Oklahoma is at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Saturday night. Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Holly Rowe are on the call for ABC.
