No. 8 Tennessee earned a statement SEC revenge victory on Saturday afternoon in Knoxville.
The Vols beat No. 5 Florida in a 64-44 blowout for their 18th win of the season. Tennessee had dropped two straight games against Auburn and Kentucky leading into this one, only magnifying the result from the Food City Center.
Another notable aspect of the game on Saturday was that Tennessee did it shorthanded. The Vols did not have Zakai Zeigler due to a knee injury and Igor Milicic Jr. due to illness but were still able to shape the game to their own liking.
Tennessee’s senior guards were a big reason for that as Jordan Gainey and Chaz Lanier combined for 35 points on the night. The Vols also got quite a bit of production from Felix Okpara, whose eight points helped Tennessee get the best of Florida in the paint, 34-14.
After the game, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes, Florida head coach Todd Golden, and a trio of UT players met with the media in the interview room.
