So nice, they did it thrice.
In a high-powered offensive game on Tuesday night in Knoxville, No. 2 Tennessee picked up a 22-9 run-rule victory over Radford thanks to a trio of grand slams that were hit on the night, including the run-rule walk-off shot in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Tennessee tied the NCAA Division I record with three grand slams in one game (really, in just seven innings) on Tuesday night.
The First Grand Slam
Radford jumped out to an early 4-2 lead on Tennessee after just two innings of play. The momentum swung toward Tennessee in the third inning, though.
With the bases loaded and Reese Chapman at the plate for the Vols in the bottom of the third, the 6-foot-1 right fielder launched a shot over the right-center fence to clear the bags. With one swing of the bat, Tennessee had taken a 6-4 lead on the Highlanders.

Following a seven-run third inning to put Tennessee up 9-4, Radford ended up scoring five straight to tie the game at 9-9 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Tennessee scored one run in the fifth and one in the sixth to take the 11-9 lead, but the Vols still wanted more.
The Second Grand Slam
With Tennessee up 12-9 in the bottom of the seventh with no outs, the bases once again loaded up. Infielder Andrew Fischer stepped up and delivered another right-center shot to clear the bases.
Tennessee went up 16-9 after Fischer’s grand slam.

The Vols weren’t done, though.

The THIRD Grand Slam
For a game to end in a run-rule, one team has to be winning by 10 runs or more after seven innings. For a game that was tied at 9 in the fifth, it didn’t necessarily look like a run-rule game was on the table for Tennessee.
Then came the seventh inning.
Tennessee loaded the bases once again in the same inning as Fischer’s home run, with the Vols now up 18-9. One run would end the game for Tennessee, but the Vols also had two outs.
Pinch hitter Blake Grimmer delivered Tennessee’s third grand slam of the night for the walk-off run-rule victory, capping off an 11-run inning that sent the Vols to the finish line with a 22-9 win.
