Tennessee swung for the fences and landed a massive commitment with five-star power forward Nate Ament on Sunday evening.
Ament ranks as the No. 4 player in the 2025 class, the No. 2 power forward in the class, and the top player from the state of Virginia, according to 247 Sports’ Composite rankings.
Tennessee beat out Kentucky, Arkansas, Duke, and Louisville for Ament’s services.
Ament, a young player with massive potential, is a great fit for Rick Barnes and the Tennessee program. Ament was recently part of the United States team that won gold at the 2024 FIBA U18 Americas Championship and will now be heading to Rocky Top to take the next step in his career.
“He’s an immense talent and still in the early stages of putting it all together,” 247’s Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein wrote in an evaluation about Ament last fall. “He has good positional size for a face-up forward at over 6-foot-9 with an elastic body type, albeit a relatively modest 6-foot-11 wingspan. He’s a fluid mover, plus athlete, and has tremendous natural hands and touch, which are the foundation of his developing skill-set.”
Ament plays for Highland School in Warrenton, VA, and was a recent participant in the 2025 McDonald’s High School All-American game.
Ament will be Tennessee’s sixth newcomer to the roster this offseason, in addition to four-star shooting guard Amari Evans, four-star center DeWayne Brown, three-star point guard Troy Henderson, Vanderbilt transfer forward Jaylen Carey, and Maryland transfer point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie.
