Oklahoma transfer shooting guard Duke Miles committed to Texas A&M basketball on Tuesday afternoon, a day before he was originally scheduled to visit Tennessee.

Miles’ trip to College Station was the first of four he had scheduled for this week. He planned to visit Tennessee Wednesday and then Baylor and USC later in the week. However, Bucky McMillan and the Aggies locked down the Oklahoma transfer before he left campus.

The 6-foot-2 shooting guard committing to Oklahoma continues a bad Tuesday for the Vols in the transfer portal. Maryland shooting guard transfer Rodney Rice committed to USC earlier in the day over Tennessee and Villanova. Rice was Tennessee’s top shooting guard target in the portal after losing Isaac McKneely to Louisville.

Without Rice, Tennessee then turned to Miles as its top transfer portal target. It’s currently unclear where the Vols will turn with Miles headed to Texas A&M.

Miles started all 34 games for Oklahoma last season, averaging 9.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and two assists per game. The 6-foot-2 guard made 40 three-pointers over the course of the season at an impressive 43% clip. He played shooting guard for the Sooners but does have a little bit of ability to run the point.

A Montgomery native, Miles spent the first three years of his college career at local Troy before transferring to High Point before the 2023-24 season. Miles then transferred to Oklahoma before last season but is back in the portal ahead of his final year of eligibility.

Miles ranks as a consensus four-star transfer. 247sports ranks him as a four-star and the No. 216 player in the portal while On3 ranks him as a four-star and the No. 142 player in the portal. EvanMiya is the highest on Miles, ranking him as the No. 65 player in the portal.

Tennessee basketball currently has three scholarships to work with in the transfer portal. They’ve landed Maryland point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie as well as Vanderbilt power forward Jaylen Carey in the portal to date. Rick Barnes and his staff also landed five-star prep wing Nate Ament alongside three other high school recruits.

Shooting guard is by far Tennessee’s biggest need in the portal. They need to add two more to the roster including one that’s starting caliber.
