Louisiana Tech shooting guard Amaree Abram officially signed with Tennessee basketball on Tuesday evening after announcing his commitment earlier in the day. The 6-foot-4 guard visited Tennessee on Monday, committing to the Vols’ staff on his visit before announcing publicly a day later.
Abram played his junior season at Louisiana Tech where he averaged 12.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. The Port Arthur, Texas native brings Tennessee the spacing they need at the two-guard spot after hitting 66 three-pointers last season at a 37% clip.
“Our entire coaching staff is excited to welcome Amaree and his family to Rocky Top,” Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes said in a statement. “We wanted to find a guard with collegiate experience and to get someone who has already performed well in the SEC is a bonus. Amaree is a high-level athlete with quality defensive ability who can really shoot the ball from 3-point range. He takes pride in guarding the opponent’s best offensive player, which is a mindset we love here at Tennessee. Amaree is a mature young man with leadership skills who loves basketball and we think he is a strong fit for our program.”
Abram is also one of the best perimeter defenders in Conference USA. In a three game stretch during conference play, Abram defended three of the conference’s best scorers and held them to 10 points per game on 27% shooting from the field.

Tennessee will be Abram’s fourth school in four years. He spent his freshman season at Ole Miss where he impressed, starting 22 games on his way to eight points, two rebounds and two assists per game. Abram transferred to Georgia Tech after his freshman season and struggled with the Yellow Jackets before landing with Louisiana Tech last season, bouncing back.
“All around guy. Glue guy. Can do whatever the team needs,” Abram told RTI as his strengths. “Be a leader. I can get downhill. I can make plays for my team. I can shoot it really well.”
Abram marks the Vols’ third transfer commit of this offseason joining Maryland point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie and Vanderbilt power forward Jaylen Carey. Tennessee currently has signed a four player prep signing class that includes five-star wing Nate Ament— the nation’s No. 2 player.
