Tennessee basketball has filled 12 of its scholarship spots ahead of the 2025-26 season. At the moment, the Vols have one more scholarship to work with but if the House Settlement passes then the scholarship limit could extend to 15 for next season.

Meeting with the media at the Big Orange Caravan last week, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes stated that the Vols would be very selective with their scholarships going forward and would like to hold a scholarship until later in the summer.

But it appears that Tennessee is kicking the tires with a former transfer portal target who is back on the market. The Athletic’s Tobias Bass reported Tuesday that Tennessee is one of nearly a dozen schools that have reached out to Oklahoma shooting guard Duke Miles since he backed off his commitment to Texas A&M.

The Vols were originally scheduled to host Miles on a visit in late April but Miles committed to Texas A&M on his visit the day before he planned on taking a trip to Tennessee. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard asked out of his NLI to Texas A&M late last week and is back on the market.

After Miles committed to Tennessee, Rick Barnes and his staff pivoted to Louisiana Tech shooting guard transfer Amaree Abram who committed to and signed with Tennessee last week after visiting the Vols. Tennessee also went cross the Atlantic and landed prep shooting guard Clarence Massamba from France.

Even with Abram and Massamba in the fold, shooting guard is still the weakness on Tennessee’s talented roster. The Vols could add Miles to add depth at the two-spot and as insurance if Abram doesn’t pan out.

Amongst the teams who has reached out to Miles are Baylor, Gonzaga and Vanderbilt according to Bass. Miles cancelled a scheduled visit to Baylor after committing to Texas A&M.

Miles started all 34 games for Oklahoma last season, averaging 9.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and two assists per game. The 6-foot-2 guard made 40 three-pointers over the course of the season at an impressive 43% clip.

The Vols have added three transfers to their roster this season in Abram, Maryland point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie and Vanderbilt power forward Jaylen Carey. Tennessee signed five prep players including five-star wing Nate Ament, four-star wing Amari Evans and three-star point guard Troy Henderson.
