Four-star linebacker TJ White is down to four schools and will announce his college commitment next week, 247sports’ Tom Loy first reported Sunday.

White has cut his list down to Auburn, Florida State, Mississippi State and Tennessee and plans on announcing his college commitment on July 1.

The Jackson native ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 113 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. White also ranks as the No. 7 linebacker and No. 5 player in the state of Mississippi in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

Josh Heupel and his staff have not actively recruited Mississippi in their time at Tennessee but the Vols are doing more work there in the 2026 recruiting cycle. Four-star defensive tackle Dereon Albert is teammates with White at Jackson Academy and will also announce his college commitment July 1.

The Vols are also hard after five-star receiver Tristen Key. A Hattiesburg native, Keys is committed to LSU but officially visited Tennessee two weekends ago.

White has taken official visits to all four of his top contenders as well as North Carolina. The blue-chip linebacker’s visit to North Carolina was his first followed by Auburn, Florida State, Tennessee and Mississippi State. White’s official visit to Tennessee was the same weekend that both Albert and Keys officially visited the Vols.

Tennessee football’s 2026 recruiting class currently includes nine commitments but none of them are from linebackers. The Vols don’t have a major need for linebackers in their 2026 recruiting class after landing one of the best linebacker classes in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

The Vols will still almost certainly land at least one linebacker in their 2026 class. Tennessee is heavily recruiting four-star athlete Joel Wyatt who could potentially play linebacker in college.

Tennessee’s 2026 recruiting class currently ranks No. 40 nationally and No. 10 in the SEC according to the 247sports team rankings.
