Former Tennessee guard and Nashville native Chaz Lanier was selected with the 37th pick in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft on Thursday night.

While Lanier will work to improve areas of his game, the Detroit Pistons are getting a pinpoint shooter from the perimeter with a high-level ability to catch and shoot from the three-point line.

During the 2024-2025 season at Tennessee, Lanier averaged 18.0 points per game on 43.1% shooting and 39.5% three-point shooting. He also averaged 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in 38 contests with the Volunteers last season.

While his time in Knoxville was short, it was impactful and memorable. Lanier broke Tennessee’s all-time single-season three-point record with 123 made threes on the season. The 6-foot-4, 199-pound guard was named the SEC Newcomer of the Year and the Jerry West Award winner while helping Tennessee reach the Elite Eight in his lone season with the Vols.

Lanier will now take his talents to the Motor City as a second-round draft pick.
