The college baseball transfer portal officially closed Tuesday after being open and extremely active for a month. Tennessee baseball lost 26 players to the transfer portal as they prepare for roster cuts coming next season and has added nine commitments to date.
Of the 26 Tennessee players to enter the portal, 20 are pitchers. Only one transfer had a consistent role last season while pitchers Andrew Behnke, Austin Breedlove and Michael Sharman had fringe roles in the Vols’ bullpen. Seven of the outgoing transfers have committed to new schools including four committed to power four schools and two committed to SEC rivals.
Tennessee’s nine incoming transfers include five POs (pitcher only), a pair of two-ways, an outfielder and a utility man. Four of the nine incoming transfers are eligible for the 2025 MLB Draft.
Tony Vitello and his staff are continuing to recruit targets in the transfer portal including Wake Forest outfielder Ethan Conrad and Virginia LHP Evan Blanco.
