Tennessee pitcher Tegan Kuhns was the Cape Cod Pitcher of the Day Sunday after turning in a dominant outing while earning his first win of the summer.
Kuhns allowed just one run while striking out nine batters in 5.1 innings of work while the Brewster Whitecaps earned an 8-4 victory over the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. The right-handed Tennessee pitcher has now made three appearances in the Cape Cod League this summer where he’s posted a 1.35 ERA, striking out 20 and walking just one batter in 13.1 innings pitched.
The rising sophomore currently ranks eighth in ERA, six in strikeouts and 14th in WHIP (1.05) in the Cape Cod League so far this summer.
Kuhns is coming off a freshman season at Tennessee where he posted a 2-4 record, 5.40 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 36.2 innings pitched. The Gettysburg, Pennsylvania native came to Tennessee with an abundance of hype and spent most the season as the Vols’ Sunday starter.

The 6-foot-3 right hander showed strong flashes during his freshman season but never fully put things together. After a rough outing against Texas in the SEC Tournament, Kuhns did not pitch for Tennessee in any of its six NCAA Tournament games.
While many would have transferred under the circumstances, Kuhns decided to return to Tennessee and is looking to take a step forward into his draft eligible sophomore season. Kuhns has the talent to do so and his early success at the Cape Cod League shows just that.
Illness slowed Kuhns down early in his freshman season but is serious breakout candidate for Tennessee’s 2026 squad. There is no shortage of opportunity for Kuhns as he’s one of the few holdovers of the Vols’ pitching overhaul.
Incoming Tennessee transfers Landon Mack (Rutgers) and Evan Blanco (Virginia) each have power four starting pitching experience. Still, Kuhns projects as a weekend starter for Tennessee though he will have to earn that job in the fall and preseason.
