An in-state Tennessee target is set to announce his collegiate commitment on Tuesday.
Javonte Smith, a three-star athlete in the 2026 recruiting class, will be choosing between Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, and West Virginia. He’ll be announcing his commitment at Jackson North Side High School in Jackson, TN.
“After prayer, thoughtful consideration, and talks with my family, I’ve decided to move my commitment date to Tuesday, July 8th, at North Side High School, surrounded by my teammates, coaches, and family,” Smith wrote in a post to X in late June.
247Sports’ Composite Rankings have Smith tagged as the No. 964 player in the class, the No. 148 receiver in the cycle, and the No. 37 player from the state of Tennessee.
Smith is a two-way player for North Side as both a receiver and a cornerback. According to his own social media account, Jackson was named the Region Offensive Player of the Year with 1,027 receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns. The six-foot, 170-pound athlete also tallied two kick return touchdowns, five interceptions, and three pick-sixes for the Indians in 2024.
Smith took official visits to all four of his finalists this spring and summer, with Tennessee landing the final visit on June 20. He showed his appreciation for the visit on social media following the trip to Rocky Top.

While just a prediction, On3 Sports does have Tennessee leading the way at 67.8% on its Recruiting Prediction Machine. We’ll have to wait until Tuesday to see if Smith stays in the Volunteer State or takes his talents elsewhere, though.
Tennessee has been on a recruiting tear in the last two weeks, adding eight commitments since June 27th. The Vols’ 2026 class now consists of 17 total players and sits at No. 15 in the nation according to 247’s team rankings.
