Former Tennessee football wide receiver Nate Spillman is once again entering the transfer portal, according to a report by Pete Nakos of On3.
Spillman, who transferred out of Josh Heupel’s Vols program this past December, initially committed to UNC Charlotte. After going through spring practice with the program, he is looking for his third school in a year’s time.
He will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next program after spending two in Knoxville. During his freshman season in 2023, Spillman redshirted and did not play in any games. As a redshirt freshman, he got on the field for two matches.
In a total of eight snaps in 2024, Spillman registered a PFF grade of 60.8 on the year. All eight of the plays he was in for were runs. He played six in the win over NC State in Charlotte and two in the win over Kent State at home the following week.
He was listed by Tennessee as 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds. Spillman played outside receiver, typically the Z position on the right side of the formation.

Spillman is from Nashville, Tennessee, where he played his high school ball for Lipscomb Academy. He was born in Sierra Leone in West Africa.
He was a three-star recruit and considered the No. 229 receiver in the country and No. 42 recruit out of the state, according to 247. His prep career was capped off with a senior season that saw him claim back-to-back Tennessee Division II-AA State Championships on the back of a 13-0 season. Lipscomb Academy was ranked as the No. 10 team in the nation by NationalHSFB.com that year.
When he entered the transfer portal this past offseason, Spillman was considered a three-star transfer. He clocked in as the No. 2,401 player in the portal and No. 366 receiver of the pool, according to 247.
He is the older brother of current Tennessee linebacker Edwin Spillman, as well. His younger brother is entering his redshirt-freshman season and projects to be a piece of the linebacker rotation behind Arion Carter and Jeremiah Telander in his second year with the Vols.
