Three-star safety Jowell Combay committed to Tennessee football Wednesday evening over a top group that included Georgia, Missouri, South Carolina and Wisconsin.

Combay ranks as a three-star recruit and the No. 635 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The Marietta native also ranks as the No. 71 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 49 safety in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

It’s the second straight day that Tennessee football has landed a commitment from a Kell High School standout. Four-star linebacker Brayden Rouse committed to the Vols over Texas Tuesday and the Vols now boast commitments from each of the Kell standouts. Former Vols who played their prep football at Kell High School include Solon Page III and Brian Randolph.

With Rouse and Combay, the Longhorns posted a 7-5 record in Georgia AAAA Region 6 during the 2024 high school season.

Combay took official visits to Tennessee, Missouri, South Carolina and Oklahoma State during his recruitment. The Vols received Combay’s final official visit on June 20 and made it count, landing his commitment two and a half weeks later. Combay also unofficially visited Tennessee for its “865 Live” recruiting weekend in May and for a spring practice in March.

Combay’s commitment continues an extended run of success for Tennessee on the recruiting trail. The Vols have landed 11 commitments in the last three weeks, over doubling the size of their recruiting class during that time.

Tennessee’s 2026 recruiting class now contains 20 commitments including from six defensive backs. The Vols now boast commitments from three-star safeties Luke Thompson and KJ McClain as well as three-star cornerbacks Zay Anderson, Jamyan Theodore and Javonte Smith.

Combay’s commitment boosts the Vols’ 2026 recruiting class from No. 14 to No. 13 nationally and from No. 6 to No. 5 in the SEC according to the 247sports team rankings.
