Tennessee bolstered its 2025-2026 roster on Friday afternoon with a commitment from Israeli shooting guard Ethan Burg.
Burg will come to Knoxville after playing two professional seasons with Bnei Herzliya in the Ligat Winner League in Israel. He also served two years with the Israeli military prior to his time in professional basketball.
In the most recent 2024-2025 season, Burg shot 45% from the field while averaging 11.1 points per game. The 6-foot-3 guard knocked down 38% from behind the arc and 80% from the free-throw line.
The soon-to-be 23-year-old brings a shooting talent with him to Knoxville. The stats speak for themselves, but there’s another level that Burg could potentially unlock during his time with the Vols. But what’s perhaps even more impressive than his shooting is his ability to score at the basket. Burg can get to the hoop, play through contact, and finish with either hand in the paint. He can use a screen at the top of the key to either drive down the line or create space to throw up a three-point attempt.
Burg’s also got nice change of speed with the ball in his hands. Depending on the type and skill level of his defender, he can change his pace to disorientate whoever is guarding him, whether that’s to create space to shoot, drive, or pass it to a teammate.
All of these traits come together to help make a skilled and intriguing prospect. It’ll be fascinating to see just how Rick Barnes and his staff decide to use the former international pro, but it’s exciting to think about what he can bring to the SEC and the Volunteers this season.
