Former Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton III is back in the media spotlight during NFL training camp.

As a new addition fighting for the backup position to Dak Prescott with the Dallas Cowboys, Milton has been the talk of the Dallas sports media as he goes through his first training camp with the Cowboys.

On Wednesday, he sat down for an interview with 105.3 The Fan’s K&C Masterpiece to talk about his time at training camp and his journey to the NFL. One of the first questions that was asked to Milton was about a play where he lost the football, which looked like it might’ve come after the whistle. Milton spoke about a trait that was especially picked up while he was at Tennessee.

“It was after the whistle, but just regardless of that, just finish the ball,” Milton said. “Bring the ball back to the ref. That’s something I kind of grew up on when I took my time at Tennessee, just always handing the ref the ball.”

Later in the interview, Milton was asked about a particular teammate of his – former South Carolina wide receiver Jalen Brooks. The 6-foot-2 receiver spent three years with the Gamecocks and was on the team that infamously beat Tennessee during the Vols’ breakout 2022 season.

While talking about building strong relationships with the receivers, Milton was asked about Brooks.

“That being said, it’s still okay to talk a little s*** to a receiver who, his team might’ve cheated in college to beat you, right?” host Kevin Hageland said.

“Oh, most definitely,” Milton said with a laugh and a grin. “Most definitely. Ab-so-lutely.”

“Talking about you, Jalen Brooks,” Hageland responded.

As he goes through his first training camp with Dallas, Milton is vying for the backup position with former Florida and West Virginia quarterback Will Grier. The former Gator is a longer veteran in the league, but has had minimal play time in his years. The hope for the Cowboys is that the younger, more athletic Milton can come in and cement himself as the backup behind Prescott in case the starter’s injury fears become reality again.

While we still have to wait until the preseason to see how everything looks in a game format, Milton has (unexpectedly) dazzled the media early on with his deep throws and rocket arm.

And the backflip.
