Former Tennessee wide receiver had an early standout moment during the New York Giants training camp on Thursday with a back shoulder touchdown from former Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.

Hyatt ran down the right sideline, and it made a nice adjustment on the ball to not only create space from his defender but also keep his feet in the endzone. The catch was made during 11-on-11 drills.

Hyatt is entering his third year in the league since being drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft following a breakout season at Tennessee.

His time in the league hasn’t been all too noteworthy, but he also hasn’t had the greatest crop of quarterbacks throwing him the ball in New York. The Giants parted ways with former starting quarterback Daniel Jones this past offseason, giving the keys to veteran quarterback Russell Wilson.

Wilson praised the former Tennessee product during an interview in early July.

“The biggest thing is just that consistency that I can bring to him every day, too,” Wilson said. “Just making sure that I’m always giving him extra opportunities down the field. Also, not just down the field, in any play we got. Spending extra time on the field. He’s got a great work ethic, Jalin does. I think he’s got great grit to him. I think that he wants to be great every day. He’s got all the special pieces to it all. What makes a great receiver is his ability to catch the ball. In contested situations, he does a great job of that.”

As Hyatt competes this fall to earn an improved role with the Giants offense, he’s tweaking a specific part of his game to make a difference. Hyatt’s been known as a speedy wide receiver throughout his career, but he’s hoping that added physicality can make the difference moving forward.

According to the New York Post’s Ryan Giancola, Hyatt revealed that he has “put on some muscle to help him improve at contested catches and run blocking” this offseason.

“For me, it’s just executing, being consistent [and] making plays that come to me,” Hyatt said, via the New York Post. “I’m not really worried about any rotations.”

In his rookie season in 2023, Hyatt hauled in 373 yards on 23 receptions in 17 games. That production diminished with New York’s quarterback woes in 2024, though, with only 62 yards on eight catches in 16 games. He’s also still looking for his first career NFL touchdown.

As the Giants work in the veteran Wilson into the fold this offseason, we’ll see if the quarterback change in The Big Apple, combined with Hyatt’s improved physicality, helps the former Tennessee wideout stand out in the crowd in what some are calling a make-or-break season.
