A highly anticipated addition to Thompson-Boling Arena at the Food City Center has just been unveiled.

Tennessee Athletics has installed a state-of-the-art video board in place of the old one, hanging above the center court of The Summitt.

The new jumbotron’s four-sided panels make it look and feel significantly better than the old one. It also has new corner panels that will allow Tennessee’s various graphic and video teams to make full use of the space for hype packages of the Vols and the Lady Vols.

One key feature that more modern jumbotrons have been adding is also an interior video board on the inside of the tron. While those on the outside won’t be able to see it, it gives fans, media, and teams sitting courtside the ability to look up and have a much better view of what is being displayed.

Tennessee has now added this with its new jumbotron.

“The new center-hung video board will feature larger screens on all four sides and an improved bottom ring,” Tennessee wrote in a press release in January. “Additionally, interior boards will be included for those sitting courtside and in the lower section of the arena to enhance the visibility of live video updates. All four corner boards within the seating area will now display live video, score and statistical information.”

There’s also a new sound system to help feed the floor, as UT likes to say.

“The new sound system will feature high-performance speaker arrays to provide an even distribution of sound levels,” the release reads. “The new system will also expand the sound coverage in premium suite areas and include new concourse and restroom speakers throughout the venue.”

Here’s a look at the old jumbotron side-by-side with the newly renovated system that’s now in place.
