Former Tennessee wide receiver and longtime NFL veteran Cordarrelle Patterson will be seeking a new home ahead of the 2025 season.

Patterson announced on Monday morning that he had been released from his contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, throwing some shade at his former organization in the process.

“Breaking news! Pittsburgh Steelers release old washed up Cordarrelle Patterson on his day off!!!” Patterson posted to X just before Noon Eastern Time.

Patterson’s post has gone insanely viral in the immediate moments after being posted. It has more than 1,000,000 impressions in its first half hour of being up on Twitter.

Patterson signed a two-year contract with the Steelers before the 2024 season. In one season in Pittsburgh, the former Vol recorded 11 kickoffs for 240 yards. He also posted 32 carries for 135 yards and 12 receptions for 80 yards and one touchdown during his lone season with the Steelers.

Patterson seemingly had tension with his former team coming out of the 2024 season. He didn’t see the field during the Steelers’ 28-14 Wild Card loss to the Baltimore Ravens, and his team abandoned the run game with only 11 carries on the day. The day after the game, Patterson took to Instagram to express his frustration. He posted a picture of a snow shovel with the caption, “Guess I’ll shovel snow since I can’t touch the field n s***.”

Barring a return to one of his previous stops, the 34-year-old will now be looking for his seventh NFL team. He was drafted out of Tennessee in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft and has spent time with Minnesota, Oakland, New England, Chicago, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh during his career.
