Tennessee basketball is hosting the son of a former NBA All-Star on an official visit this fall. Four-star wing Bryson Howard will officially visit Tennessee from Oct. 24-26, Sam Kayser first reported and a source confirmed to RTI.

Howard is the son of NBA veteran Josh Howard who played 10 seasons in the NBA, mostly for the Dallas Mavericks. Bryson Howard’s visit to Tennessee is one of eight he’s scheduled for this fall, capping off a stretch where he’ll see Texas A&M, North Carolina, Texas, Duke, Houston, Kentucky and UConn.

Howard ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 25 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-5 wing ranks as the No. 10 small forward in the country and the top player in the state of Texas in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

Tennessee has significant interest in the highly rated four-star but knows it’s going to be a tough task to land the blue-chip prospect. As Howard’s visits indicate, Tennessee has to beat out instate programs like Texas and Houston as well as blue bloods like Kentucky and Duke.

Howard plays his prep basketball at Heritage High School in Frisco— a suburb of Dallas. Josh Howard is currently the head coach at the University of North Texas – Dallas.

Josh Howard is a North Carolina native and was the ACC Player of the Year and an All-American at Wake Forest from 1999-2003. The Dallas Mavericks drafted Howard late in the first round of the 2003 draft and he spent seven years with the franchise, including an All-Star game appearance in 2007, before ending his career with Washington DC, Utah and Minnesota.

Tennessee’s 2026 recruiting board is continuing to come into place and Howard is now the third scheduled official visit in the upcoming months. Four-star point guard Miles Sadler is officially visiting Tennessee in late August while five-star point guard Deron Rippey Jr is officially visiting Tennessee the same weekend as Howard.

The Vols also hosted four-star wing Gage Mayfield, four-star shooting guard Junior County and three-star point guard Sam “Deuce” Simmons Jr on visits over the summer. County excluded Tennessee from his top five Monday while Simmons is further down Tennessee’s board at the moment.

Rick Barnes and his staff also have interest in LaTrell Almond, Emmanuel Green and other blue-chip prospects but we’ll see if they get them on campus and become serious players in their recruitments.
