It’s hard to believe that we’re just under a month from college football.
It all begins for VolNation on Aug. 30, when the Volunteers host Syracuse at Rocky Top. Underdogs to capture the SEC title this year, the Vols are still expected to make an impact … and could surprise the oddsmakers.
Here are some of the key early-season matchups with the best Tennessee football odds that bettors could throw down some action on:
Vols heavy underdogs to secure SEC title
With the changes that have taken place on the Tennessee roster, it’s understandable why they’re longshots to win the SEC this season. Texas, Georgia, and Alabama are the class of the conference on paper, but things could change after the games begin.
As of today, DraftKings has the Vols at to win the SEC in 2025. FanDuel has them at . They fall behind the aforementioned trio of teams, as well as Ole Miss.
Syracuse at Tennessee: Saturday, Aug. 30 at noon: Tennessee -13.5 points
This will be a nice opening test for the Vols as they search for the right parts and pieces to put into place on a roster that experienced heavy turnover. Between players like pass rusher James Pearce and running back Dylan Sampson heading to the NFL and Nico Iamaleava leaving for UCLA, Tennessee will need to establish chemistry early and show that Josh Heupel’s offense can still hum with new faces. At home against Syracuse is a good test.
The Orangemen finished 10-3 in the ACC last season, including marquee wins over Miami and Washington State. These two squads have met only three times, with the Vols winning all of them. The season-opener may reveal yet another identity for this Heupel-led team as it focuses more on defense than scoring points, but Tennessee -13.5 feels right for this matchup.
Georgia at Tennessee: Saturday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 pm: Tennessee +7.5
An old-school SEC slobberknocker early in the season? Let’s do it. There’s no love lost between these two, so a +7.5 line is reasonable. The Bulldogs outdueled the Volunteers 31-17 in last year’s meeting, but a defensive emphasis and question marks on Georgia’s squad should come into play.
College football season is right around the corner, and we’ll have you covered with best bets, odds, and analysis throughout the year.
