The Vols’ Week 3 matchup against SEC rival Georgia is sure to draw a number of highly touted visitors, but we now have confirmation of one who will be on Rocky Top for the game.

According to a report from Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong on Tuesday, Tennessee will host class of 2027 four-star quarterback Israel Abrams for the Vols’ SEC opener against Georgia on Sept. 13. He’ll also be taking a visit to Iowa State for its matchup against Iowa and a trip to Northwestern at some point in the season.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pound quarterback recently helped lead Montini Catholic High School to the 3A Illinois State Championship title during his sophomore season last fall. According to the Chicago Sun Times, Abrams was 10-of-16 with 225 yards and three touchdowns in the decisive 49-8 championship victory.

During that year, Abrams took over as the starter during the season. He ended up throwing for 2,033 yards and 29 touchdowns, while also adding 335 yards on the ground. Abrams threw just three interceptions while completing 63.8% of his passes.

According to Rivals’ rankings, Abrams is listed as a four-star prospect. He also comes in as the No. 95 player overall, the No. 6 quarterback in the class, and the No. 5 player from the state of Illinois. 247Sports’ rankings are even higher on the 2027 prospect, listing him as the No. 60 player and the No. 5 quarterback in the cycle.

“Well-built frame throughout and an elastic mover for his size,” 247’s Cooper Petagna wrote of Abrams in an April evaluation. “Not exceptionally twitchy but shows the ability to consistently avoid pressure and extend plays with his feet. Plays with adequate footwork but has a tendency to rely on his upper body as a passer. Over-the-top release point, not the smoothest, but effective and gets the ball out quickly enough. Displays above-average to good arm strength. Past camp context shows a QB who could develop well as a drive-ball thrower. Has some natural gamer to him in his play style.”

It’s still early in his recruitment, but 247Sports reports that Tennessee extended a scholarship offer to Abrams on May 5, 2025.

We’ll see how things may unfold once Tennessee gets him on campus for what will surely be a high-energy rivalry game against Georgia in September. It’ll also be the Vols’ highly anticipated Checker Neyland game.

Tennessee currently has one commitment in the 2027 cycle. The Vols landed a commitment from three-star linebacker JP Peace, the son of former Tennessee linebacker Robert Peace and the grandson of legendary UT football coach Phillip Fulmer, back in mid-June.
