Have a debut, Drew Gilbert.
After being traded from the New York Mets to the San Francisco Giants, Gilbert officially made his debut on Friday night against the Washington Nationals.
It didn’t take long for the former Tennessee Vol to make a SportsCenter Top 10-worthy play, either.
With the Giants looking to hold a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, Nationals right-handed batter Jacob Young pushed a sharp liner out to right field. Gilbert, making his major league debut out in right field, made a sprinting, diving snag to grab the catch right on the foul line.
The catch from Gilbert ended the inning for the Giants and helped keep the early part of the game safe en route to a 5-0 shutout victory from San Fran.

More From RTI: San Francisco Giants Calling Drew Gilbert Up To The Show
“It was awesome,” Gilbert said about the catch after the game. “There’s no denying that, (but) I think the coolest part is winning the ballgame, right? You come here to win, you want to win. I also know that you’re going to be a little amped up in your debut, right? I don’t want to say you throw results out the window, but you take everything with a little grain of salt just because it is an experience that you haven’t really felt, probably, playing in 30-plus thousand people.”
“Guys are still on the field waiting for me, and I appreciate that. So you got guys that have been doing it, and you know, to know that they appreciate that means a lot.”

Gilbert didn’t record any hits or walks in his four plate appearances on Friday night, but he only struck out one time. He was hitting .262 with 14 home runs and 55 RBIs for the 2025 season as a whole, so you’d think that it’s only a matter of time before the bat comes around, similar to VFL Christian Moore with the Los Angeles Angels.
VFL Drew Gilbert and the Giants will continue their series with the Nationals in a 4:05 p.m. ET game on Saturday afternoon in The Bay.
