
Former Lady Vols basketball guard Samara Spencer is set to get her professional career underway this week. Spencer, who spent one year at Tennessee, signed with Puerto Rican team Criollas de Caguas on July 28. Now, the squad is playing on both August 27 and August 29.
Game one is set to be held at 8 p.m. ET against Moca. Game two is also at 8 p.m. ET, but against Santurce. Both games will air on YouTube.
Criollas de Caguas is based out of Caguas, Puerto Rico. They won the Puerto Rican SuperLeague 25 Championship in 2006.

Spencer’s lone year at Tennessee saw her help Kim Caldwell reach the Sweet 16 in her first year leading the program. In 34 appearances and 32 starts, she averaged 10.6 points on 40.9% shooting from the field and 36.7% on 3-pointers. This included a 33-point outburst against NC Central that saw her knock down nine threes.
In her career, Spencer notched 1,730 points, 533 rebounds, 523 assists, 215 three-pointers and 164 steals. She one of only six SEC women since 1991-92 to eclipse 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.
Spencer also spent her first three seasons at Arkansas before transferring in to join Caldwell. She started in 97 of 101 games there while averaging 13.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. In 2022, she was not just named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, but was the SEC Freshman of the Year for her efforts.
Spencer was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was the No. 72 overall recruit in the 2021 class by Blue Star. During her senior season of high school, she helped lead St. Thomas Aquinas to a state title.
Other Lady Vols from Caldwell’s 2024-25 season to sign pro deals are Jewel Spear and Sara Puckett. Notable returners to the roster include Talaysia Cooper, Zee Spearman, Ruby Whitehorn and more.
