The Florida State Volunteers? When Florida State released its depth chart for its opening game this week, it featured three former Tennessee football players in starting roles. Two of them were on the Vols’ roster as recently as this past season, as well.
Most notably, Squirrel White was listed as one of the starting receivers. The speedy slot has been a piece of the Vols for the past three seasons and now enters his final year of eligibility with the Seminoles. In 2024, he started in the slot but battled through injury for much of the year. He finished with 381 yards and two touchdowns on 34 receptions.
At one of FSU’s defensive end spots, Jayson Jenkins earned the job. He was a rotational piece on the edge for the Vols a year ago, but was typically behind Dominic Bailey and Tyre West. He posted three solo tackles with two sacks and forced a fumble.
At linebacker, Elijah Herring secured one of the spots. He found his way into a big role as the team’s leading tackler in 2023 after Keenan Pili went down. He went to Memphis for 2024 and is now back in the Power Four ranks as a senior.

Florida State will open the season on Saturday, Aug. 30, against Alabama. The game in Tallahassee will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
Currently, Tennessee has not released its opening depth chart. The one spot on the roster that has been publicly announced is the starting quarterback job. Josh Heupel revealed it would be Joey Aguilar to start the season. However, when asked about the second-string job, he declined to answer.
The expectation is that the Vols will release a depth chart just ahead of the opener on Saturday. Tennessee will play Syracuse in Atlanta at noon ET in Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Aug. 30. The game will air on ABC and Rocky Top Insider will be in attendance to provide updates before, during and after the game.
