
No. 22 Tennessee set a modern-day program record with 72 points in a huge win over in-state foe ETSU on Saturday afternoon in Knoxville. The Vols defeated the Bucanneers by a score of 72-17 to improve to 2-0 on the season with a big-time game against No. 4 Georgia on the horizon next weekend in Knoxville.
Tennessee’s trio of quarterbacks threw for 458 yards on the day: Joey Aguilar (288, 2 TDs), Jake Merklinger (118, 2 TDs), George MacIntyre (52).
The Vols’ running back room followed up a big performance against Syracuse in Week 1 with another monster showing in Week 2 against the Bucs. Tennessee ran for 259 yards in total, led by Star Thomas with 69 yards on 12 runs and DeSean Bishop with 68 yards on just three carries.
From a defensive perspective, Tennessee’s first-team defense held ETSU’s offense to three-and-outs on its first five drives of the game.
