No. 15 Tennessee will host No. 6 Georgia in a Week 3 SEC Clash this Saturday afternoon in Neyland Stadium. It’ll be the opening conference games for both programs as they look to grab a marquee win to kick off their SEC slates. Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel and Georgia head coach Kirby Smart will have their teams ready to go for the game, but the Volunteers have the added bonus of a home-field advantage with perfect weather projected for Saturday on Rocky Top.
ESPN’s College GameDay will be set up at Ayers Hall for the Saturday morning pregame show featuring Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, and Pat McAfee. It’ll be the first time that ESPN’s flagship college football show has been to Knoxville since it made two trips (vs Florida, vs Alabama) during the 2022 football season.
Additionally, Tennessee will also honor VFL and college football legend John Henderson during the game for his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. The Vols will bring back Henderson and several of his teammates to celebrate the occasion.
That’s not all, though. Tennessee is also putting on its famous Checker Neyland environment for the game. It’ll be the ninth all-time Checker Neyland game in Tennessee history and the fifth-straight year that the Vols have had one. It ran every year from 2014 to 2017, but then hit the shelf for a while. Tennessee resurrected Checker Neyland for Josh Heupel’s tenure and has gone 3-1 during his four years in Knoxville.
Tennessee fell to Ole Miss by five points during the 2021 game, but has since rattled off wins over Florida (’22 and ’24) and Texas A&M (’23).
For fans heading to the game in Neyland Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Tennessee encourages them to head over to www.CheckerTN.com/football to figure out what color (orange or white) they’ll need to wear to help make the 102,000-masterpiece look strong.
All fans have to do is put in their section, row, and seat into the calculator, and they’ll get an easy look at what color to wear.
