Tennessee football is set to hold its SEC opener in just a day when it meets Georgia inside Neyland Stadium. The Vols and Buccaneers will square off at 3:30 p.m. ET with the game airing on ABC.

Before kick-off, I dove into the numbers, with the help of UT’s game notes, to get a better look at what to expect in the game.

Here are three numbers to keep in mind as you’re watching the conference opener.

Since Josh Heupel got to Tennessee, the Vols have had elite offenses that have put up large numbers on a consistent basis. There’s really only been one team that has been able to stop the onslaught of points and yardage. Georgia.

Since the first meeting between Heupel and the Bulldogs in 2021, UT has never scored more than 17 points in a game. That’s despite striking early in each of them and holding a lead after landing the first blow.

While the offense has reached 17 twice, it has also produced just 13 and 10 in games against Georgia. On the other hand, UGA has put up 41, 38, 31 and 27 points in the four games.

Since the start of the 2022 season, Tennessee has lost just 1 game at home. The only team to catch the Vols over the course of now going on four seasons was Georgia in 2023. The Vols used a Jaylen Wright touchdown on the first play to take a 7-0 lead, but fell 38-10.

Wins in this period include games against Alabama (twice), Florida (twice), Kentucky (twice), Texas A&M, Missouri, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State and Pitt.

With the only loss inside Neyland Stadium in the past 22 contests coming to Georgia back in 2023, it’s meant a strong streak has been built. Tennessee has won nine in a row in its home confines leading into Saturday.

Tennessee is without its two starting cornerbacks against Georgia, and has been since the beginning of the season opener against Syracuse. Jermod McCoy has been injured since the offseason after suffering a blow to his ACL, and Rickey Gibson will miss an ‘extended period’ after going down against the Orange in the first quarter.

In their replacement, it’s been Colton Hood and Ty Redmond manning the cornerback spots. With these two on the edges, UT still hasn’t given up much through the air. Despite the efforts of Syracuse and ETSU, Tennessee has broken up 14 passes through two games. This is tied for the second-most in the country behind just SMU at 15.

With Georgia coming to town with an unproven offense led by Gunner Stockton, the secondary could feast.
