Tennessee fans are feeling pretty good about Joey Aguilar and the offense through three drives against Georgia. The Vols found the end zone on all three possessions, taking a 21-7 lead into the second quarter. Compared to what Tennessee’s offense looked like a year ago in Athens, there’s a reason to celebrate.

In the 31-17 defeat to the Bulldogs in 2024, Nico Iamaleava threw for 167 passing yards on 20-of-33 passing without finding the end zone or throwing an interception. He also ran the ball 12 times for 18 yards.

In one quarter in 2025, Aguilar has topped the passing marks. He owns 213 yards and two touchdowns on a perfect 14-for-14 passing with no interceptions. He also punched in a four-yard touchdown run to open the game.

This hot start included another bomb down the field. Aguilar hit Chris Brazzell for a 73-yard strike through defensive pass interference to respond to Georgia’s response to Tennessee’s opening touchdown.

He also hit Brazzell for his second score from 14 yards out. This put Brazzell’s stat line at four catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns. A year ago, he only caught one pass for six yards. The leading receiver in the game was Miles Kitselman, who caught four passes for 46 yards.

The result is the most points Josh Heupel has ever scored on Georgia in a single game. And he did it in the first quarter alone. The previous mark was the 17 UT produced in 2024 and 2021. Tennessee has scored first in each of the four contests with Heupel leading the Vols, as well, with this one no different.

However, the game is far from over. On the first play of the second quarter, Georgia scored on a screen to make it a one-touchdown game. Tennessee was forced to punt on its first drive of the second quarter, as well, with the ball downed at the UGA four.
