Hopefully you didn’t wait until after Tennessee football’s heartbreaking loss to Georgia to get your bet in for Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar to win the Heisman Trophy. After the narrow 44-41 defeat in overtime, his odds to win the most coveted individual award in the sport have seen a significant boost.
Aguilar entered the season with +8000 odds to win the trophy. Going into the Georgia game, it was already cut down to +5000. That was tied for the 22nd-best odds to win the award in the country. Now, according to FanDuel on the morning of Sept. 14, 2025, Aguilar has +1600 odds to win the Heisman Trophy. This is tied for the fifth-best mark in the country.
The frontrunner at the moment is Miami quarterback Carson Beck at +800. He has led the Hurricanes to a 3-0 start and a win over a ranked USF team to get his Miami career started after transferring in from Georgia. In second place, Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer sits at +900. Third place to round out the podium is Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton at +1100, who just helped the Bulldogs beat the Vols in Neyland Stadium.
Fourth place goes to Oregon quarterback Dante Moore at +1300 before multiple players, including Aguilar, are tied for fifth at +1600. This includes Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed, Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin and Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.

Aguilar has now amassed 906 passing yards and nine touchdowns through just three games. This is on pace for an absurd 3,624 yards and 36 touchdowns. He did throw two picks in the loss to Georgia, but one was essentially an arm-punt on third down, and the other came after receiver Braylon Staley slipped.
In the Georgia game, Aguilar had his finest showing yet. He completed 24-of-36 passes for 371 yards and four touchdowns, along with the two picks. He did take his first sack of his UT career, but also ran in a touchdown for the first time as a Vol.
This comes after he transferred in during the spring window to enter a quarterback battle with Jake Merklinger and George MacIntyre. The App State record-holder and brief UCLA signal caller won the job and has looked sharp through the opening three games.
The next test could help him raise these odds even more. Tennessee hosts a floundering UAB team on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. ET. Kickoff will air on SEC Network.
