Mississippi State will host No. 15 Tennessee in an SEC clash on Saturday afternoon in Starkville, MS. This will be the Bulldogs’ first conference game of the season, while Tennessee is looking for its first SEC win after an overtime loss to Georgia in Week 3.
Tennessee is 3-1 on the season. The Volunteers kicked things off with a neutral-site win over Syracuse before a home-opener win over East Tennessee State. Tennessee then fell to Georgia in overtime at home, but rebounded with a big win over UAB last weekend in Knoxville.
Mississippi State, meanwhile, has been one of the more surprising teams of the early slate. The Bulldogs are undefeated with wins over Southern Miss, Alcorn State, and Northern Illinois. But their biggest win of the season so far was a home win over then-No. 12 Arizona State, which was won on a 58-yard touchdown with just 30 seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter.
Tennessee is currently a point favorite over Mississippi State heading into the game.

Despite being on the road, ESPN Analytics has Tennessee favored going into the game. The Matchup Predictor gives Tennessee a 73.7% chance of winning.
This won’t be your average road game, though. The Bulldogs are pulling out some big tricks to enhance their stadium environment with the marquee SEC matchup on the horizon.
Mississippi State is hosting a white-out for the game on Saturday, honoring the Bulldogs’ 2000 team that beat Texas A&M during a snowstorm in the Independence Bowl. Jeff Lebby’s team will be wearing all-white uniforms at home, with white helmets and maroon facemasks, white jerseys, and white pants. Tennessee, meanwhile, will bring its signature shade of orange to Starkville. The Volunteers will don all-orange uniforms on Saturday, complete with white helmets, orange jerseys, and orange pants.
One player to watch on the Mississippi State front is Anthony Evans III, who is currently fourth in the SEC in all-purpose yards. Evans has the most receptions (21) and the second-most receiving yards (290) on the Bulldogs’ roster, but also has 129 punt return yards through the first four games this season.
Tennessee, meanwhile, is the best passing team in the SEC. It’ll be a great test against a Mississippi State secondary that doesn’t allow explosive plays often. The Vols lead the SEC in passing yards per game at 337, led by the duo of quarterback Joey Aguilar (281 YPG) and wide receiver Chris Brazzell (106.5 YPG).
Mississippi State will host No. 15 Tennessee at 4:15 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon in Davis Wade Stadium. Stay tuned to Rocky Top Insider for live, on-site coverage of the game this weekend.
