Former Alabama Quarterback Officiating Tennessee Football’s Game vs. Mississippi State

On the whistle as a referee in Tennessee football’s game at Mississippi State is a possibly familiar name to Vol fans. David Smith, a former Alabama quarterback, will be one of the officials.

Smith was a signal caller for the Crimson Tide from 1985-1988. In his career, Smith played in 21 games while completing 59.6% of his passes. This resulted in 1,983 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

While at Alabama, Smith lost his first game against Tennessee, but won the final three of his career.

Tennessee and Mississippi State kicked off in Starkville, Mississippi, at 4:15 p.m. ET. The game is airing on the SEC Network.

Tennessee is looking to play spoiler to Mississippi State’s undefeated start to the season while picking up its first SEC win of the season at the same time. Quarterback Joey Aguilar will lead the Volunteers’ offense in his fifth game with the Big Orange.

The Vols sent out long snapper Bennett Brady, linebacker Jeremiah Telander, offensive tackle Lance Heard and defensive lineman Bryson Eason for the coin toss. Mississippi State won the toss and elected to receive, getting the ball first.
