Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is getting his money’s worth out of Mississippi State’s loss to Tennessee over the weekend. In the last two days, Kiffin has fired two separate shots at the Bulldogs online and in an interview regarding State’s stadium takeover at the hands of Tennessee fans.

On Tuesday, Kiffin reposted a social media post that showed just how many Tennessee fans were packed into Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday afternoon in Starkville.

He took things even further on Wednesday. During the latest episode of Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take, the former Tennessee coach snuck in another shot at his in-state rival.

“Who’s that? That’s the Mississippi State guy?” Kiffin said on the show, referencing MSU superfan and Barstool commentator Brandon Walker. “Ask him how that game was Saturday in Neyland Stadium.”

“No, that was at home,” Barstool’s Big Cat replied. “That was at Mississippi State.”

“Yeah. Exactly,” Kiffin said. “Did you see it?”

“Oh, I see what you’re saying, I get it now,” Big Cat said. “Yeah. There were a lot of Tennessee fans.”

Kiffin is undoubtedly riding high this week. His Ole Miss Rebels just defended their home field last Saturday in a ranked win over LSU, and his new documentary, ‘The Many Lives of Lane Kiffin,’ was released on ESPN last week. He’s also had plenty of fun teasing his daughter’s new boyfriend, LSU linebacker Whit Weeks. It’s safe to say that things are rolling right now in The ‘Sip.

Jokes aside, though, Tennessee’s takeover of Davis Wade Stadium was a sight to behold on Saturday night. Mississippi State wanted to implement a white-out for the game to honor the Bulldogs’ 2000 Snow Bowl team, and for the most part, it did… Except for the massive sea of orange that sat on the southeast side of the stadium.

State had its cowbells ringing non-stop throughout the entire game, which is something that every college football fan should see at some point. It’s an unforgettable sight and sound. But it was also remarkable to hear the cowbells go silent when the Bulldogs’ fourth-down pass in overtime hit the ground to seal Tennessee’s win. At that point, it was Rocky Top on the road.

Tennessee fans have proven that they’ll travel anywhere in the country to support their team, whether it be an SEC opponent like Mississippi State, a non-conference foe like Ohio State, or, of course, an in-state rival like Vanderbilt. Say what you will about the team at any given time, but there’s no doubt that the Vols’ fans are some of the best at making their presence known in opposing stadiums. Just ask LSU in 2022.

Perhaps we’ll see Kiffin take another shot at Mississippi State this week, or maybe he’s got it all out of his system for now. But with a coach like him, you just never know what’s going to come next.

Mississippi State will host Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels in the Egg Bowl on Friday, Nov. 28, in Starkville, MS.
