Despite having an open date and not playing this past Saturday, Tennessee football finally moved up from its previous spot at No. 15 in the Coaches Poll. The Vols were slotted in that position on Sept. 7 and have stayed there since.

Now, due to plenty of upsets across college football, Tennessee has been pushed up to No. 12 in the country. This is good for No. 7 in the SEC behind Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia and LSU.

Topping the poll is Ohio State after a strong win over Minnesota. Rounding out the top five are Oregon, Miami, Ole Miss and Texas A&M.

The Vols jumped Texas, Iowa State and Penn State in the rankings. No team jumped UT this week.

With Arkansas also having an open date this past weekend, Tennessee will be Petrino’s first test in his new position.
