Tennessee QB Joey Aguilar’s Heisman Odds Plummet After Win Over Arkansas

Despite Joey Aguilar having another strong showing in Tennessee football’s win over Arkansas, the Vols quarterbacks’ Heisman Trophy odds have plummeted. FanDuel now lists Aguilar with +4000 odds to win the prestigious award. This is the 14th-best mark in the country.

This is a significant drop in odds since last week. Aguilar entered the contest against the Razorbacks with +2200 odds. That was tied for the 10th-best across college football.

Aguilar completed 16-of-25 passes against Arkansas for 221 yards and a touchdown. He did not throw an interception. He also ran for 59 yards on five carries. This included a crucial rush for 28 yards in the final minutes to help ice the game.

Leading the Heisman odds is Miami quarterback Carson Beck. He sits just in front of Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson at +320 with the Tide signal caller at +340. Then, it’s Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, Ohio State’s Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith, Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed, Georgia’s Gunner Stockton, Utah’s Devon Dampier, USC’s Jayden Maiava, Notre Dame’s CJ Carr, Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss, Oregon’s Dante Moore and Georgia Tech’s Haynes King leading up to Aguilar.

If Aguilar does win the award, he’d be the first Vol to ever take home the trophy. Peyton Manning was a finalist in his last year in Knoxville, but was snubbed in the decision, losing to Michigan defensive back Charles Woodson. Current wide receiver Chris Brazzell has also emerged as a dark-horse option this year, but has no odds listed. He only caught one pass for five yards against Arkansas, though.

On the season, Aguilar is responsible for 1,680 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions through six games. He’s run for a total of 117 yards for two touchdowns, as well.

Next, the Vols and Aguilar will head to Tuscaloosa for the rivalry matchup with Alabama. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and will air on ABC.
