Tennessee football got some good news on the recruiting trail ahead of its trip to Tuscaloosa to play Alabama in the Third Saturday in October. Kamauri Whitfield, a three-star cornerback in the 2027 class, committed to the Vols over multiple other Power Four programs.

Whitfield currently holds offers from UT, Florida State, Oklahoma, Illinois, Florida, Auburn, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Maryland, Nebraska, Missouri, Miami, Wake Forest, Kentucky, Iowa State, Baylor and North Carolina, among others.

He is considered a three-star cornerback by 247 and is the No. 425 player in the class in composite rankings. Out of Orlando, he is the No. 45 player out of Florida and No. 42 player in the country at his position. He stands at 5-foot-10 and attends The First Academy.

This is now the second commitment in the 2027 class for Josh Heupel and Tennessee. Whitfield joins legacy linebacker J.P. Peace out of West High School in Knoxville.

Peace is the son of former Tennessee linebacker Robert Peace and the grandson of legendary Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer. He chose the Vols over offers from Florida State, Kentucky, Virginia Tech and others.

Robert Peace played linebacker at Tennessee from 2000-03 where he combined to play in 37 games and totaled 164 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and three sacks. His best season came during his 2003 senior campaign, where he totaled 103 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two pass deflections and a forced fumble.

Fulmer was Tennessee’s head football coach from 1992-2008 where he led the Vols to SEC Championships in 1997 and 1998 as well as the 1998 National Championship. The Vols made it back to Atlanta and the SEC Championship game again in 2001, 2004 and 2007 but have still yet to win the SEC Championship since the win over Mississippi State in ’98.

A Winchester, Tennessee native, Fulmer played offensive line for the Vols from 1968-71 and also served as Tennessee’s athletic director from 2017-21. Fulmer’s two major hires as athletic director were Jeremy Pruitt and Kellie Harper. Men’s golf coach Brennan Webb was Fulmer’s best hire.
