After the firing of Sam Pittman, Arkansas football is still looking for its new head coach. Currently, Bobby Petrino is back in charge of the Razorbacks program, but it’s just with an interim tag. He’s getting a look for the job, but Arkansas is going to do a full sweeping search for its next Head Hog.

This has meant a bunch of names have been thrown around by Arkansas fans and the media. One of the names that’s been floated is former Mississippi State and Florida and current UNLV coach Dan Mullen. However, he shot down that prospect in response to a podcast clip on X.

In the post, he also gave his opinion on who should get the job. He thinks former Auburn and Central Florida coach Gus Malzahn should get it, who currently serves as the offensive coordinator at Florida State.

“0.0 interest in Arkansas,” Mullen posted. “Thanks for the shout out though. Ya’ll need to hire Gus Malzahn.”

Mullen got his first head coaching job at Mississippi State after spending time as the offensive coordinator at Florida. After going 69-46 at MSU, Florida hired him ahead of the 2018 season. With the Gators, he won the SEC East in just his third year atop the program. However, the following year, in 2021, he was fired after a 5-6 start.

Mullen spent time in the media landscape before getting back into coaching. This is his first year at UNLV, and he is off to a 6-0 start.

Malzahn was the head coach at Arkansas State for one year, and after a successful season, he was hired by Auburn. He coached there from 2013-20 before being let go. In his first year atop the Tigers’ program, he fell just short of beating Florida State in the national championship game.

Malzahn went to Central Florida the year following his firing from Auburn. He coached there for four years before parting ways due to a 4-8 year. He is now the offensive coordinator for Florida State. He has connections to the Razorbacks, as well. He was the offensive coordinator in Fayetteville in 2006.
