No. 11 Tennessee fell to No. 6 Alabama by a score of 37-20 on Saturday night in Bryant-Denny Stadium. With the loss, the Vols move to 5-2 on the season with a 2-2 record in SEC play. Tennessee will return to action next Saturday night against Kentucky in Lexington.

After the game, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel spoke to the media for about five minutes to give some of his reactions to the game. Heupel talked about play-calling decisions, Alabama’s back-breaking pick-six at the end of the first half, Tennessee’s defensive struggles, and more.

“Disappointing result. Ultimately, offensively, just self-inflicted wounds in the first half killed a bunch of our drives,” Heupel said to open his press conference. “The positive is the way they came out and competed early in the second half. Defense, good stop, offense goes and scores, turnover— we don’t take advantage of it. Self-inflicted wounds on that possession again. But again, you’re playing a good team. The details are going to matter. We lost in the details tonight. Ultimately, that’s my responsibility, our responsibility, players and coaches together.”

Tennessee also had three players speak to the media with running back DeSean Bishop, wide receiver Braylon Staley, and linebacker Jeremiah Telander.
