Tennessee AD Danny White met with the media for about 16 minutes on Wednesday afternoon as he opened up a Q&A session following the departure of Vol Baseball head coach Tony Vitello earlier in the day.
“In my mind, this is not a sad day, it’s a proud day,” White said. “Congratulations to Tony. This is something that’s never been accomplished before. So I think it’s a testament to obviously Tony, but everybody that’s ever played for him, coached for him, our fans that have supported the program.”
White hit on several topics, including naming Frank Anderson the interim coach, what Tennessee’s coaching search will look like, rumors about Tennessee’s NIL rev-sharing policy, his upcoming meeting with the team, and much more.
“Players are our No. 1 priority right now,” White said. “We’ll be visiting with them later today, as I always do, embarking on a search. I’ll be letting them know I’ve asked Frank Anderson to serve as our interim head coach. The terminology I use with Frank is, I need a shepherd right now. I need a day-to-day leader. And his response was, ‘Not that long ago, I was one of the most fiery baseball coaches in the country, and you’re asking me to be a shepherd?’ I said, ‘Coach, that’s exactly what I’m asking you to do.'”
