Tennessee golf coach Brennan Webb penned a message of support for his “friend” Tony Vitello on social media late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning.
“Final answer to the 3000 texts I got in the last two weeks… YES. Going to miss seeing my friend regularly. Anyone who thinks there is a chance he is going to fail at this has never met him,” Webb wrote, posting heart emojis alongside it.

Webb is in his seventh season with the Tennessee golf team, first arriving before the 2018-2019 season. Webb and Vitello have spent many years together inside the Tennessee Athletics department, with Vitello first being hired by the Vols in the summer of 2017.
While speaking to RTI and a few other outlets on Thursday, Vitello expressed his appreciation for the other coaches inside the UT building.
“The other thing here — why would you want to be a VFL and why it’s easy to have success? The athletic department,” Vitello said in the interview. “It truly is a sorority and fraternity amongst us as coaches.”
Webb’s post on social media followed another Tennessee coach shouting out Vitello online after the news broke of his departure for San Francisco. Softball head coach Karen Weekly posted an emotional message using the same wording as Webb, calling Vitello a friend in the building.
“Nothing but respect and gratitude for Tony as a friend and a colleague,” Weekly posted to X on Wednesday. “He has always been there to support Vol Softball and we will miss him. Congratulations Tony, we are very proud and happy for you!”

It’s unbelievably clear the level of respect and friendship that Vitello had with his coaching colleagues inside the walls of the Tennessee Athletics buildings. And, it was clearly mutual. Vitello was someone who could unite teams and sections of the fanbase to cheer on The Big Orange.
Vitello also felt the same way about the fans.
