With just a day until Tennessee football meets Kentucky on the gridiron, the Vols have released their list of team captains for the game in Lexington. UT does captains on a game-by-game basis, but often a lot of the picks repeat throughout the season.
This time, it was three multi-time captains and one first-timer. For the first time this season, offensive guard Wendell Moe Jr. will serve as captain. He has started each game this season at right guard, but with the return of David Sanders Jr. at right tackle, he’s also flipped to left guard at times with the whole line getting shaken up. Against Alabama, he played all 85 snaps between the positions and earned a PFF grade of 57.4.
In the case of longsnapper Bennett Brady, it will be his sixth time in eight games serving as a captain. As the special teams representative, he was only not a captain in blowout wins over ETSU and UAB. This is his first year as the starting longsnapper after he began his career backing up Matthew Salansky.
On defense, it’s two multi-time captains, as well. Jeremiah Telander is in the role for the third time this season. He has started every game at middle linebacker opposite of Arion Carter. However, with Carter listed as questionable to play vs. Kentucky, Telander’s role could exponentially grow this Saturday.
The final captain is defensive lineman Dominic Bailey. The sixth-year senior has spent most of the year at defensive end, but has also slid in to play defensive tackle at times. This is his second time as a captain this year.
