Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin isn’t one to waste his words, and he didn’t miss an opportunity to do so on Saturday afternoon following the Rebels’ win over the Sooners in Norman, OK.

While speaking with ESPN on the field after the game, Kiffin could be seen sharing some words with Oklahoma sophomore defensive lineman David Stone.

“You’re a little quieter now than before,” Kiffin said.

With Stone still in the background, Kiffin was asked if he was talking a little trash to the Sooners’ players.

“This guy yelled at me during the game like five times, how great they were and how we can’t score on ’em,” Kiffin said with a smirk during the ESPN interview.

The Rebels defeated the Sooners by a score of 34-26 in Memorial Stadium. Ole Miss scored 10 in the first quarter, 10 in the second quarter (a safety from the defense increased the total to 12), three in the third quarter, and nine in the fourth quarter.

Stone, a 6-foot-3 sophomore from IMG Academy by way of Oklahoma City, OK, was a five-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class. During his recruitment, it does appear that Stone received a scholarship offer from Kiffin’s Rebels, but 247’s recruiting database doesn’t show any visits that were made to Oxford. Stone briefly entered the transfer portal after his freshman season on April 18, but withdrew his name just two days later and returned to Oklahoma.

Maybe it was playful from a past relationship, or maybe the comments were made in the heat of a competitive SEC battle. Either way, it’s certainly an unsurprising move from Kiffin.

If Stone has any lingering frustrations from the incident on the field after the game, his next chance to get them out will be this weekend when the Sooners travel to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers. Stone played against Tennessee in Norman during his freshman season, recording one tackle for loss during the game. Stone is currently sixth in total tackles on the Sooners’ roster this year with 28. He’s also got 1.5 sacks and one pass deflection.

Stone finished the Ole Miss game with three total tackles.

No. 14 Tennessee will host No. 18 Oklahoma on Saturday night in Neyland Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Stay tuned to Rocky Top Insider for more Tennessee Football coverage.
