Legal Updates & What to Expect from Future MO Sportsbooks
Missouri is finally joining the expanding world of legal online sports betting. Starting December 1, 2025, residents and visitors will be able to place wagers through licensed online sportsbooks for the first time in state history.
Although sports betting is now legal in Missouri, operators are still in the process of going live. With multiple sportsbooks already approved and more on the way, the state’s betting landscape is quickly taking shape ahead of launch day.

Missouri Sports Betting Licenses: Tethered vs. Untethered
Missouri has established two categories of online sportsbook licenses — untethered and tethered.
-
Untethered licenses allow sportsbooks to operate independently without partnering with a local casino or sports team.
-
Applicants: DraftKings, FanDuel, and Circa Sports
-
Approvals: DraftKings and Circa Sports received untethered licenses, while FanDuel will now need a local partnership to enter the market.
-
-
Tethered licenses require partnerships with one of Missouri’s 13 casinos or six professional sports teams. The state allows for a maximum of 19 tethered licenses.
After reviewing applications before the September deadline, the MGC granted temporary licenses to 10 sportsbook operators.
