New Tennessee baseball coach Josh Elander has made a splash hire for his first move as the Vols head coach. Elander poached Florida associate head coach and active head coach Chuck Jeroloman to his staff, D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers first reported and a source confirmed to RTI Thursday night.

Jeroloman has spent the last six years on Kevin O’Sullivan’s staff at Florida where he’s helped lead the Gators to College World Series appearances in both 2023 and 2024. Florida promoted him to associate head coach following the 2024 season. He’s currently the active head coach for Florida with O’Sullivan on temporary leave away from the program.

Elander has a previous tie to Jeroloman with the Vols’ new assistant beginning his college coaching career at TCU during Elander’s senior season as a player.

Jeroloman has earned the reputation as a top recruiter and hitting coach in the college baseball ranks. Prior to his time in Gainesville, only one Florida player had hit 20 home runs in consecutive seasons. Three different Florida players have hit 20-plus home runs in consecutive seasons.

It’s currently unclear what Jeroloman’s exact role will be at Tennessee. Elander is filling the vacancy on his staff that his promotion created. Elander ran Tennessee’s offense and was the associate head coach. During his introductory press conference, Elander was uncertain on what he was going to do with the vacancy on his staff and how his role would change as he took on more responsibility.

Frank Anderson remains Tennessee’s pitching coach while Ross Kivett is another part of the Vols’ staff. Support staff members include strength coach Quinten Eberhardt, Director of Pitching Performance Josh Reynolds, Special Assistant to the Head Coach Sean McCan, Director of Baseball Operations Adam Low, Director of Baseball Research and Development Zach Stovall and Recruiting Operations Specialist Ricky Martinez.

Prior to his time at Florida, Jeroloman was on staff at South Florida, Jacksonville and TCU. Jeroloman played his college baseball at Auburn where he was a three-year starter before the Boston Red Sox selected him in the 21st round of the 2004 MLB Draft.
