Tennessee football has put together an elite 2026 recruiting class to this point. However, one of the only holes is the lack of a running back commitment. The Vols pushed in their chips for five-star Savion Hiter, but he ultimately chose Michigan instead. Now, Tennessee is getting in the mix for one of the other top backs in the cycle, Amari Latimer.
According to a report from Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, Latimer is going to take an official visit to UT this Saturday. This coincides with the Vols’ highly anticipated game against Oklahoma at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Latimer has been committed to Wisconsin since June, but the chance to get him on campus could be enough to change his mind.
Tennessee isn’t necessarily new to the race for his talents, though. The Vols were in the mix throughout his recruitment and had running backs coach DeRail Sims and offensive coordinator Joey Halzle visit him in May.

Latimer is a four-star prospect and ranks as the No. 313 player in the country, according to 247 composite. He is the No. 18 running back and No. 37 player out of the state of Georgia, as well. He is from Tyrone, Georgia, and plays for Sandy Creek High School.
While Latimer has the ability to get to a high speed, he’s described as ‘stocky’ and ‘heavy behind the pads’ by 247’s Andrew Ivins. He is listed on the site as 5-foot-11, 230 pounds.
Tennessee does not have a commitment in the 2026 class at running back yet, but did land a pair in the 2025 cycle. The Vols pulled off a late flip of four-star Daune Morris from USC and held on to three-star Justin Baker, as well. In the 2027 class, there are multiple targets on the board, but none may be bigger than in-state five-star David Gabriel Georges.
